Remembering Those Who Passed

Wild Phone installed at Allen Brooks to help people reflect on loved ones lost

The local agency that provides end-of-life care has spearheaded a project to allow people to connect with those who have passed away while surrounded by nature.

The North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS) has installed its Wild Phone at the Allen Brooks Nature Centre.

NOHS says people can visit the phone, located near the Norah Foord Pond Learning Centre, and use it to place a symbolic call to “speak to loved ones who have passed, those far away, or anyone they carry in their heart.”

Though not connected, the Wild Phone is intended to act as a symbol of connectedness, healing and release.

“This space is a gentle invitation for people to connect with their emotions and memories in a way that feels safe, private, and supported by nature,” Megan Cox, Executive Director of NOHS, said.

“At Hospice, we believe in honouring every part of the grief journey — and the Wind Phone is a meaningful way to support that journey beyond our walls and into the community.”

The phone is available for anyone to use during Allan Brooks Nature Centre’s regular hours.
