Kelowna prepares for Canada Day with festivities, closures and service changes

Jun 26, 2025 | 11:40 AM

Canada Day celebrations are returning to Kelowna’s downtown waterfront, and the city is preparing for a busy day of music, crowds, and closures.

Festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, with activities spread across Waterfront Park, Stuart Park, the Rotary Commons, and Prospera Place. New this year, the refurbished Waterfront Park stage will be back in action after an extended closure for upgrades.

To accommodate the event, Water Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Cawston Avenue and Sunset Drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day. The boat locks at Waterfront Park will also be shut down from Tuesday morning through 8 a.m. Wednesday. Parking in the area will be limited, with the Dolphins lot and two bays at City Hall closed from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Event setup begins Monday, June 30, with the lakefront promenade between Tugboat Beach and Sunset Drive closed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Access to Waterfront Park will still be available via Rhapsody Plaza during this time.

The city encourages residents to walk, bike, or carpool to reduce congestion. Real-time parking space availability for nearby parkades can be found at kelowna.ca/parking, along with road condition updates at kelowna.ca/roadreport.

City Hall will be closed Tuesday for the statutory holiday, as will the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery administration office. However, cemetery gates will remain open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Glenmore Landfill will operate as usual from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and the Parkinson Recreation Centre will be open with holiday hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents are also reminded that the property tax payment deadline is July 2. Payments and other service requests can be submitted online at kelowna.ca/onlineservices.
