Vernon creek project celebration rescheduled due to thunderstorm risk

A celebration to mark the second and final stage of the Polson Park Vernon Creek Naturalization Project has been postponed.

An event was planned for Friday, June 20, to celebrate the progress being made on the project, but the City of Vernon said it was being rescheduled for July 18 due to a severe thunderstorm watch being issued Friday.

The celebration was to feature live music and entertainment, and family-friendly activities such as games, face painting, and a bouncy castle.

It was also to run alongside the Polson Artisan Market.

The Polson Park Vernon Creek Naturalization Project involves restoring the creek to a more natural state by replacing existing concrete banks with a meandering channel to mitigate flood risks; adding natural features to enhance fish habitat and spawning areas; installing new crossings; and planting riparian plants.
