Lack of police clarity on reported midday backalley assault in Kelowna downtown

Jun 18, 2025 | 5:24 PM

There’s a lack of clarity over a reported lunchtime assault in downtown Kelowna on Monday.

RCMP initially said Wednesday, that a 42-year-old woman was attacked in an alleyway by a stranger between Ellis and St Paul streets.

However, they later reported that new information suggested the assault did not happen, only for them to then retract that information.

As of late Wednesday there was no further detail offered.

Original story:

A woman on her lunch break was assaulted in Kelowna’s downtown area and police are asking for witnesses or video footage.

It happened between 1:00 and 1:25 p.m. Monday in the alleyway between Ellis Street and St. Paul Street.

The 42-year-old woman did not know the suspect.

Police sais in a media release Wednesday morning they were seeking any info or video taken around the 1440 block of St. Paul Street and the 1400 block of Ellis Street, bordered by Bernard Avenue and Doyle Avenue, including the back alleyways, including the back alleyways.

“We are urging anyone who may have seen this incident or captured any relevant video footage—whether from dash cams, security cameras, or personal devices to come forward,” Cpl. Allison Konsmo, Media Relations with the Kelowna RCMP, said. “If you have information or footage and have not yet spoken with police, please contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2025-33922.”
