Road closures coming to Frost Road and Chute Lake Crescent for summer construction

The City of Kelowna is advising drivers to prepare for upcoming road closures on Frost Road and Chute Lake Crescent as part of major construction projects expected to last through the summer.

Starting Tuesday, June 17, Frost Road will be closed between Threadgold Court and Killdeer Road until mid-August. As part of this work, the intersection at Frost Road and Killdeer Road will also be closed beginning June 30 for approximately three weeks. A detour will be available via Chute Lake Road, Barnaby Road and South Ridge Drive. Access will be limited to local residents.

Chute Lake Crescent is also scheduled for closure from Tuesday, June 17 until mid-September, between Chute Lake Road and Okaview Road. A detour will route traffic through Chute Lake Road via Lark Street.

Commuters should expect further disruptions on Chute Lake Road later in the summer and into the fall.

“Motorists can expect delays and are encouraged to choose other routes or travel outside of peak times,” the City said in a news release. “Cyclists are encouraged to choose other routes and can expect temporary or uneven surface material in the construction areas.”

The closures are part of the Frost Road extension and Chute Lake Road roundabout project, which represents a $6-million investment into the city’s transportation network.

According to the City, the project will “expand transportation options, streamline traffic and improve safety.” Additional upgrades will include new sidewalks, a multi-use pathway, street lighting and improvements to water and storm utilities.

Residents and drivers are asked to follow the directions of safety personnel and obey construction signage and fencing while work is underway.

“The City of Kelowna and onsite crews appreciate your patience during construction and apologize in advance for any inconvenience,” the release stated.
