‘Kelowna S**t Show’: Flyer making a stink downtown

Jun 13, 2025 | 9:18 AM

A controversial flyer circulating online is demanding that the City of Kelowna provide 24-hour access to public washrooms — and is warning of grotesque protest action if the demand is ignored.

Styled to look like an old newspaper, the flyer was first shared on Reddit earlier this week. It advertises a demonstration planned for 8 p.m. on June 13, stating that a group of unhoused individuals will “sit on the following public places” unless the city meets their demand.

The listed locations include Kelowna City Hall, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, the Queensway transit loop, the downtown library, and other public and cultural facilities.

The flyer argues that closing public washrooms at 8 p.m. leaves people with no overnight access, calling 24/7 bathroom availability a matter of “common sense.”

It is titled “Kelowna Sh*t Show” and features a group photo resembling city council members, with a caption accusing them of “incompetence and garbage collusion.”

The flyer has reportedly also been physically posted in parts of downtown Kelowna.

While the tone and language have raised concerns online, others on social media say the message highlights a real issue — the lack of public washroom options for the city’s vulnerable population, especially at night.

City officials and Kelowna RCMP say they are aware of the flyer and are monitoring the situation. The city says public washrooms in key areas are regularly maintained and open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

There is no official word yet on whether 24-hour access will be considered.
