Suspects believed to be involved in crimes throughout the region have been arrested in the North Okanagan.

At around 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, Sicamous RCMP officers spotted a suspected stolen vehicle at a local gas station.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly crashed into the police vehicle and then fled. The officer in the cruiser was not injured in the collision.

A multi-unit response that involved area RCMP, Police Dog Services, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, B.C. Highway Patrol, and Air Services, lead to the suspect vehicle being found heading south on Highway 97A near Grindrod.

A spike strip was used to disable the vehicle, and the two occupants then fled on foot but were tracked down by police dogs and arrested.

RCMP said charges were being forwarded to the Prosecution Service and Crown Counsel.

“Thanks to the highly coordinated efforts of frontline officers and multiple specialized units, the suspects were taken into custody quickly and without injury to the public or our officers,” Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson, said.

Police did not provide any details about the suspects, the crimes they were allegedly linked to, or the charges they could face stemming from this arrest.
