Vehicle thieves arrested after spike strip, police dog deployed

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP arrested two people after deploying a spike strip and with help with police dogs.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, local police received a report of a stolen vehicle located in an area near Louis Estates Road off Westside Road.

Officer responded and located the vehicle, which immediately fled north on Westside Road when police approached.

Police stationed further up the road deployed a spike strip and successfully halted the vehicle, though the two occupants exited and fled on foot.

However, the thieves didn’t make it far, as Police Service Dogs tracked down the pair, who were arrested without further incident.

The femal passenger was later released, but the driver, a 34-year-old Kelowna man, was remanded into custody pending a court appearance on June 24.
