May 14, 2025 | 9:40 AM

Signs of summer are returning to Kelowna, with the seasonal launch of programs and amenities across the city just ahead of the May long weekend.

Meet Me on Bernard will begin Friday, May 16, turning Bernard Avenue between Abbott and Pandosy streets into a pedestrian-only corridor for the summer. The program has been extended to Sept. 14 this year in celebration of Kelowna hosting the Canadian Country Music Awards.

Waterparks are also set to open May 16, operating daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until June 26. Hours will extend to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June 27 through Sept. 2, weather permitting. Locations include City Park, Ben Lee Park and Quilchena Park.

The Bike Valet program returns May 19 with expanded hours and additional service days. Free and secure parking will be offered downtown at Bernard Avenue and Mill Street on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with weekend service starting June 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Also returning is Responsible Alcohol in Parks, which runs from May 15 to Sept. 15. During that period, responsible alcohol consumption will be permitted daily from noon to 9 p.m. at designated areas in eight city parks, including Waterfront Park, Boyce-Gyro, Kinsmen Beach and Rotary Beach.
