Chipping, Home Assessment Programs

FireSmart pilot projects launched in the North Okanagan

The Regional District of North Okanagan has launched two FireSmart pilot programs.

Residents in the RDNO Electoral Areas will be able to access a new Chipping Program and Home Assessment Program.

The FireSmart Chipping Program will allow residents to access free chipping services for tree branches, shrubs, and other woody debris. This will allow residents to clear their properties of potential fire hazards, and promote a safer environment.

Through the FireSmart Home Assessment Program, residents will be able to have their properties assessed to identify potential wildfire risks and provide recommendations for fire mitigation work. The assessments will be done by a trained local FireSmart representative.

“We are dedicated to providing high-quality services and fostering a safe and sustainable community”, Bob Fleming, chair of the Electoral Area Advisory Committee and Director of Electoral Area B, said.

“Through initiatives like these, we continue to prioritize the well-being of our residents and the protection of the Okanagan’s natural environment. These programs are vital steps in ensuring that our residents are well-prepared.”

People interested in these and other FireSmart efforts were encouraged to visit the RDNO’s website.
