The City of Vernon is celebrating Earth Day by helping residents plant more trees.

The city launched its Trees for Tomorrow program Tuesday, April 22.

This initiative provides Vernon residents with the opportunity to pick up a $75 voucher to use toward the purchase of a tree or multiple trees from one of three local garden centres: Nicholas Alexander Home and Garden; Swan Lake Market and Garden; the Flower Spot.

“This program is a simple but impactful way for our community to take part in local climate action and enhance our urban tree canopy,” Kevin McCarty, Vernon’s climate action specialist, said.

“We’re excited to launch it on Earth Day and encourage residents to help plant a more vibrant future for our community.”

Vouchers were limited to one per property within the city. They can be picked up in person at the Community Services Building on 32nd Avenue, until supplies last.

The city added people could also learn more about the program by visiting the City of Vernon booths at the Chamber Expo Saturday, April 26.
