Local golf course demands fighting golfers take responsibility

The owners of Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy have called for those involved in the fight that broke out Monday to take responsibility for their actions.

Video of the fighting, taken by a group of other golfers who were not involved, went viral.

The club, which is on Westbank First Nation lands under Indigenous ownership, has ‘demanded and insists’ those responsible for the ugly scenes actively engage in a restitution process and said the club will hold them accountable. It added anyone failing to adhere to club rules will be banned.

In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon the golf course said those who were fighting should acknowledge the damage they’ve done to each other and what it called ‘the desecration of our beautiful golf course.’

Video has been widely shared across media outlets and social media showing two groups of players fighting, with two men in particular exchanging punches.

The statement reads, in part: “…we are deeply concerned and hope that this behavior will not leave any lasting negative impression on our community and today’s youth.”

It also stated the restitution process could be in the form of a donation to an inclusive sport program or the offenders could take a Respect for Sport course.

Grand Chief Ronald Derrickson said the incident was being taken very seriously.

” This is the first incident of its kind in 20 years and will be dealt with in the utmost severity and we will be requesting a full report from the RCMP, ” he said.

RCMP said Tuesday they had viewed the video and had identified those involved.
