Westside Rd re-opening timeline unclear, debris removal starts

Westside Road remains closed for debris removal following Tuesday night’s landslide and it’s not yet clear when it will reopen.

That’s because officials don’t yet know what damage happened to the road.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit said late Thursday work to clear the road is underway, in coordination with Westbank First Nations and the Okanagan Indian Band, who are monitoring the site..

It said following debris removal, they will be able to better estimate the duration of the closure and the timeline for repairs/reopening.

Traffic is detoured to Hwy 97.

Currently, there is no information on the condition of the road below, but repair materials are on site, the ministry said.

The immediate focus is to complete interim repairs to get Westside Road safely re-opened. Once complete, ministry engineers will review the site to ensure drainage and catchment areas are appropriate.
