A new Chief has been selected to lead the Okanagan Indian Band.

The OKIB Band Council election was held Monday, March 31, and, according to the Band’s website, Dan Wilson was elected as the new chief.

He replaced Byron Louis, who had served in that role for 14 years.

The election also saw several new faces join council as Sarah Alexis, Jenelle Brewer, Mary Jack, Peggy Joe, Patrick Lawrence, and Monica Louis were elected.

Incumbent councillors Viola Brown, Allan Louis, David Marchand and Floyd Oppenheimer were also re-elected Monday.

The OKIB did not provide election turnout or result figures, and the new chief was not immediately available to speak with Vernon Matters about taking on the role.

The OKIB Band council and chief will serve on a two year term.
