Police investigating shooting in Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP are investigating an early morning shooting.

At approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 19, officers were dispatched to the area of Ellis St. and Leon Ave. for a possible firearm incident.

Mounties arrived on the scene and located a male victim. He was taken to hospital where, as of time of publication, he remained in critical condition.

Police sectioned off an area near the 1600-block of Ellis St. as police investigated the scene and gathered evidence. That area remained closed as of 10:30 a.m.

“We believe this is an isolated incident and our Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation which is only in it’s infancy,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier, Kelowna RCMP’s Media Relations Officer, said.

“We are still working on identifying all those involved including any suspects and witnesses. Anyone with information for this incident is asked to phone the Serious Crime Unit tip-line at 250-470-6236.“
