Yard Waste Disposal

Spring chipping program to start in late-March

Mar 18, 2025 | 6:00 AM

People who have been clearing their yards and properties will be able to dispose of their tree and bush trimmings.

Vernon’s spring chipping program will run from near the end of March through to mid-April.

Crews will be visiting neighbourhoods, disposing of the pruning materials, twice during the program, with specific dates for select areas:

  • Vernon Main, March 24 – 27
  • Vernon Main, March 31 – April 3
  • Blue Jays and Foothills April 7 & 14
  • Okanagan Landing April 8-10 and 15-17

People can find their exact chipping dates using the interactive map here.

The City of Vernon noted a maximum of 10 minutes of chipping will be available for each customer each week, and reminds people that:

  • Pruning materials should be placed in a pile, with butt ends facing the street, and not tied with wire
  • That roots and dirt not be included in the pile
  • That only branches or tree trunks that are 4″ in diameter or less be included in the pile

Piles that are missed must be reported to the City of Vernon within 24 hours of the second week of the program in order to be picked up after the fact.

Tangled piles or excessive volumes may not be picked. In those cases, people can bring the trimmings to the Greater Vernon Diversion and Disposal facility to be discarded free of charge.
