Montana’s Brier starts in Kelowna after unofficial procession

Feb 28, 2025 | 10:26 AM

The 2025 Montana’s Brier men’s national curling championship hits the ice at Prospera Place in Kelowna this evening, running until March 9.

Before the first rock is thrown, the excitement kicked off in style with the unofficial but fun ‘March to the Brier’ Thursday.

Visiting team supporters, local fans, and curlers joined in the march Thursday evening in advance of the 2025 Montana’s Brier. It’s the first time the event is in Kelowna since 1968.

A colourful parade of flag-waving team supporters, fans and local curlers made their way from the Tourism Kelowna building to Rhapsody Plaza/ Dolphins statue.

Kelowna Curling Club general manager Jock Tyre gave the crowd a rousing welcome while standing proudly next to the impressive Brier trophy.

“This is a terrific way to start our Brier,” he said through a megaphone.” Since 1968 this is the first time home.”

Action gets underway Friday night with three-time defending champion Team Brad Gushue hitting the ice against its counterparts from St. John’s, N.L., Team Newfoundland and Labrador, skipped by Ty Dilello.

It’ll be one of four games in the opening draw, which is set for 6:30 p.m.

Check out the video and feel the excitement ahead of the first Brier in Kelowna since 1968.
