Accused in flight from police case due back in court next month

The man facing charges including flight from police will be back in Vernon court in mid-February.

Dale Babiy was due in court to consult council in relation to an arrest on Dec. 30, 2024.

Babiy was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle when police used a spike strip to stop the car, then the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended.

Babiy was charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and driving while prohibited.

He was to meet with counsel Thursday, Jan. 30, but the B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters the case was adjourned to February 13, where Babiy will consult counsel.

No please had reportedly been entered and trial dates were not set as of time of publication.

Babiy was also previously wanted on warrants for assault with a weapon and uttering threats. That case will go to trial in vernon on Feb. 5.
