The District of Coldstream will request some support from the B.C. Government for wildfire detection reasons.

A report to Coldstream Council Monday, Jan. 27, stated wildfire detection technology is financially attainable and have been used to successfully detect fires in other areas.

It stated these systems can help with early fire response to save lives, structures, forests, and the environment, adding they can also help reduce the “costly burden of wildfire control.”

With those facts in mind, Coldstream Council voted in favour of bringing forward request that Early Wildfire Detection Technology be installed in wildland urban interface areas bordering residential neighbourhoods at the Southern Interior Local Government Association meeting in the spring.
