Awaiting Provincial Approval

Funding still pending for cycling trail enhancements

The Regional District of North Okanagan is still awaiting approval before supporting the enhancement of local cycling trails.

The RDNO Board of Directors provided the North Okanagan Cycling Society with $11,350 in 2024 to rehabilitate and build new trails at Vernon Hill.

The funding was part of a total of $50,000 that was pre-approved, however, the remaining funding was contingent on receiving approval from Recreation Sites and Trails B.C., a branch of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

As of Wednesday, Jan. 22, the province had not approved the distribution of the remaining $38,650, and an RDNO report said that funding had been allocated to the 2025 budget to be used for the trails when approval is granted.
