Police say the fire that destroyed two vehicles and damaged an apartment building is considered suspicious.

Vernon Fire Rescue responded to a fire in a parking lot of an apartment building on 30th Avenue Friday, Jan. 3.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze but not before it destroyed the vehicles and spread to the above units. There were no injuries reported though some residents were displaced.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the fire appeared to have originated at one vehicle parked in the carpark, then spread to the other vehicle before extending into the suite.

“At this time, the fire is being considered suspicious,” said Corporal Tania Finn, media relations officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

“Frontline officers canvassed the area for any video surveillance and we continue to investigate the incident.”

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP asked that anyone with information about the fire contact the RCMP at 250-545-7171, or file an anonymous report with Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
