Lost skiers rescued at Silver Star

Two skiers who got lost on Silver Star Mountain Friday were rescued by local search teams.

Vernon Search and Rescue (V-SAR) said in a social media post that rescue teams were dispatched to the mountain on the evening of Friday, Jan. 3, for a report of two missing skiers.

Rescue teams on snowmobiles located the skiers, who were men from out-of-country, at the Vernon Snowmobile Association chalet.

V-SAR stated the men had activated the SOS alarm on their cellphones, and were found safe, dry and uninjured. They were escorted from the chalet and reunited with their family.

The search and rescue group advised outdoor enthusiasts to be prepared to stay overnight when problems arise, and to carry emergency equipment including GPS communication devices and backup power sources.
