The advisory was issued after a break in the water main caused a loss of pressure and increased turbidity in the water.

People on the affected area were advised to bring tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to prepare food or drink, including washing fruits or vegetables and making baby formula and ice; and brushing their teeth.

Greater Vernon Water noted some people may notice discoloured tap water or air in their pipes. In those cases people were advised to run their cold taps until the water runs clear, noting it would be best to use an outside tap for this process.

The advisory will be lifted at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.
