Controlled Pile Burns

Pile burning planned for Vernon

People may notice smoke plumes around Vernon as brush is cleared and burned next week.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) and Forest Enhancement Society of B.C. will be conducting brush pile burns near the south end of Eastside Rd. as part of an ongoing wildland fire mitigation project.

The burning could start as early as Wednesday, Jan. 8, with VFRS saying the piles will be burned in a controlled environment.

VFRS will also be testing SenseNet, its early wildland fire detection system, during the week.
