Vernon midway through Official Community Plan and Transportation Plan reviews

Dec 30, 2024 | 1:21 PM

The City of Vernon is halfway through its revisions of its major community plans.

The city is reviewing and updating its Official Community Plan (OCP) and Transportation Plan (TP), which outline strategies for the long-term growth and development of the community.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the public engagement processes for these reviews have been completed. Based on public feedback collected through those efforts, City Council voted in favour of supporting a modified growth model, in principle.

The city’s technical studies examining housing needs, land use, environmental sensitivity and transportation were nearing completion as of Monday, Dec. 30.

The city will start drafting the OCP and TP in early 2025, which will include mapping and project lists.

Those drafts will be made available to the public in April and May for more engagement activities, and feedback gathered during that time will be used to refine the plans further, before moving to the approval process in August.

The city noted the new OCP and TP must be completed by the end of 2025, as per provincial legislation, adding the work remained on time and on budget as of time of publication.
