Environment Canada re-issued storm warnings for two area highways Wednesday morning.

The weather agency extended the Winter Storm Warning for the Coquihalla, between Hope and Merritt, as up to 30 centimetres of snow was expected to accumulate on the highway by the afternoon of Dec. 18.

The Snowfall Warning for the Trans-Canada between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass was similarly extended, with 15 to 20 centimetres of snow expected except for in the higher elevations, which could see up to 30 centimetres.

Environment Canada said the snow was incoming as a “moisture-laden Pacific frontal system” was bringing snow to the Southern Interior.

Additionally, it warned that heavy snowfall could reduce visibility.

Travellers were advised to make sure they had winter tires equipped, drive to conditions, allow extra travel time, give other vehicles plenty of space, use chains if necessary, and check conditions at DriveBC before getting behind the wheel.
