UPDATE: 12:30 p.m. Dec. 18

The precautionary boil water notice for the Dixon Dam Rd. area was lifted Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Greater Vernon Water said bacterial testing results and disinfection levels at the South BX 2 pump station showed the water was within the safe-drinking levels.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Dixon Dam Road area.

Grater Vernon Water (GVW) said a power outage at the South BX 2 pump station Monday, Dec. 13, caused a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity, so the notice was issued.

The notice affects customers on Brookside, Malim, Curlew, Maddox, Hughs, Briggs, Hartnell, and Dixon Dam Roads, as well as 4406 and 4247 De Roo Road.

GVW says power was restored and the system was flushed Monday, but still advises people bring their tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before consuming; using to make food or drink, including washing fruit and vegetables and making baby formula and ice; and before brushing teeth.

GVW will announce when further testing shows the water’s bacteria levels are within the safe range.

The water service provider noted some affected residents may notice air in their pipes or discoloured tap water, and advised people in those cases to run the cold water until it becomes clear, noting using an outdoor tap to do this is preferred
