Identifying and Addressing Accessibility Barriers

North Okanagan residents asked to participate in accessibility survey

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) wants to hear from the public about matters involving accessibility.

The RDNO is developing an Accessibility Plan to identify and address barriers to accessibility and inclusion in the area, and asked the public to provide their input through a survey.

The purpose of the survey is to identify difficulties in the physical environment, circulation of information and communications, or the delivery of local government programs and services.

All North Okanagan municipalities will participate in the administration of the survey as well.

A North Okanagan Accessibility Committee was established in the summer of 2023 to help guide input on accessibility needs and provide feedback to be used in the development of the Accessibility Plan.

“This committee is an invaluable way to get feedback from a dedicated group of people who can share their lived experiences of navigating our communities,” Shirley Fowler, Chair of the RDNO Board of Directors, said.

“We are hopeful for a strong response to the survey so we can move the development of this plan forward in the most informed way possible. We want to ensure we have the knowledge to address as many accessibility concerns throughout the North Okanagan as we can.”

The survey opened online Monday, Dec. 16, and will be available until January 31, 2025.

Physical copies of the survey can also be found at the RDNO office at 9848 Aberdeen Road, or at local government offices.
