UPDATE: Highway 97 reopened outside Lake Country

The highway between Kelowna and Lake Country has reopened following an investigation into an alleged assault in the area

Kelowna RCMP says the assault occurred in the early morning hours Friday, Dec. 6, and the highway was closed between Old Vernon and Beaver Lake Roads as local police and members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team investigated the incident.

The highway was closed just before 1 p.m., but reopened at about 2:15 p.m.

Police did not provide any details about the incident they were investigating.

Police have closed Highway 97 between Lake Country and Kelowna as an assault is being investigated.

Kelowna and Lake Country RCMP said the assault occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 6.

Local police along with the Southeast District’s Emergency Response Team were tasked with investigation the incident.

As police continue their operation, Highway 97 was closed in both directions between Beaver Lake Rd. and Old Vernon Rd.

Mounties said they would reopen the highway at a later, undetermined time.
