Former Vernon doctor acquitted of one sexual assault charge, will face over 3 years in prison

A former doctor accused of sexual assault has been acquitted of one of those charge.

Peter Inkpen was in Vernon court Tuesday, Nov. 26, for a decision in the trial where he faced a count of sexual assault.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said the trial judge acquitted Inkpen of that charge at the Vernon courts Tuesday, Nov. 26, though he still faces time in prison for other sexual assault counts.

Earlier this year, Inkpen, 44, pled guilty to the three charges of sexual assault that reportedly occurred between 2018 and 2020.

In July, Inkpen was sentenced to three years in jail on one count of sexual assault, and three months on the other charges, to run consecutively.

The trial judge upheld the decision which, with time served, will see Inkpen spend the next three years and three months in prison. The sentence aligned with a joint submission by Crown and defence counsel in July.

The court also imposed a $200 victim fine surcharge on each of Inkpen’s three counts, and issued a 10-year firearm prohibition and a DNA order.
