FortisBC to provide information on proposed Okanagan Capacity Mitigation Project
FortisBC will host an information session to raise awareness of an energy project proposed for Kelowna.
The Okanagan Capacity Mitigation Project (OCMP) is a proposed short-term solution to an expected shortfall of gas in the region by the winter of 2026-27 by developing a new, small-scale liquified natural gas (LNG) storage and send-out facility in Kelowna that can help meet peak energy demand in the region during the coldest days of the year.
The project, which is still pending a decision from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC), is driven by increased energy demand in the region stemming from continued population growth.
The public information session will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the Hyatt Place Kelowna.
