Landscaping changes made to stop loitering near downtown washroom

Nov 13, 2024 | 12:40 PM

The City of Vernon has taken action to try to end people gathering at a public washroom downtown.

City staff have removed the benches, and removed trimmed back shrubs to improve sightlines at the site of the public washroom facility on 30th Avenue, across from the Fresh Co.

The changes were intended to stop loitering and camping around the site.

A report to Vernon City Council noted area businesses would also provide shrub control for their garden beds.

The work was ordered after a report of concerns from area businesses and residents was presented to council, with the goal of addressing the issue but not taking away the washroom.
