Reduce Boil Water Notice Frequency

Grindrod water treatment plant upgraded, less prone to outages

People attached to the Grindrond Water Treatment Plant should see their boil water advisory frequency decrease.

A new generator has been installed at the Grindrod Water Utility to support operations during power outages.

The Regional District of North Okanagan said outages depressurize the water distribution system, leading to Boil Water notices being issued as per Interior Health regulations, and that having this generator in place will ensure operations can be maintained in the case of an outage.

Electrical upgrades were also completed to facilitate having the generator in place, and electrical systems inside the plant that were corroding due to high humidity were also replaced.

“The completion of this phase of the project marks a significant step forward in improving the reliability and safety of our water systems,” Allysa Hopkins, Director of RDNO Electoral Area F, stated.

“With the frequent power outages in the area, this new system will ensure that residents no longer need to worry about Boil Water Notices during these already inconvenient interruptions.”

The $460,000 work at the Grindrod Water Treatment Plant was fully funded through the Canada Community Building Fund.

“This project is an excellent example of how the Canada Community-Building Fund supports vital infrastructure improvements in communities across the country,” Harjit Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, said on behalf of Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities.

“By investing in projects like these, we’re not just ensuring that essential services, such as safe and reliable water, are maintained during emergencies, we’re also helping local governments like the Regional District of North Okanagan build infrastructure that will benefit residents for decades to come.”
