Vote Discrepancy

Recount request granted in Kelowna Centre riding

One of the local results of the 2024 Provincial General Election is going to be reviewed.

Loyal Woolridge, the NDP Candidate for the Kelowna Centre riding, requested a partial recount after a transcription error of one vote was identified between a ballot account and a tabulator results tape.

ElectionsBC said this discrepancy was likely due to an error by an election official, as ballot accounts are forms filled in by election officials showing the number of ballots issued and the votes for each candidate, based on the tabulator results tape.

The partial recount will be conducted by hand Sunday, Oct. 27.

Preliminary results from election night, Oct. 19, showed the Conservative Party of B.C. candidate, Kristina Loewen, leading the riding with 10,744 votes, just ahead of Woolridge’s 10,596 votes.

Woolridge was one of five candidates in the most recent election to file for a recount, and was the only one ElectionsBC granted, with the organization stating the other candidate requests did not meet the requirements needed to justify a recount.
