Preliminary counts have NDP ahead in Vernon-Lumby riding, Conservative taking Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream seat

Early counts has the two local ridings split between the two major parties, but the figures haven’t been finalized.

With all 25 ballot boxes counted, Harwinder Sandhu of the B.C. NDP holds a small lead in the Vernon-Lumby riding.

All 24 ballot boxes in the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding have been counted and Conservative Party of B.C. candidate, Tara Armstrong, is projected to be the winner of that seat.

Out-of-district votes had not been counted as of time of publication, and could still influence the local ridings.

The initial results are as followed:

  • Vernon-Lumby
    • Harwinder Sandhu (NDP) – 11,528 / 42.5 per cent of votes
    • Dennis Giesbrecht (Conservative) – 11,143 / 41.08 per cent
    • Kevin Acton (Unaffiliated) – 4,196 / 15.47 per cent
    • Robert Johnson (Libertarian) – 259 / 0.95 per cent
  • Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream
    • Tara Armstrong(Conservative) – 13,611 / 54.2 per cent
    • Anna Warwick Sears (NDP) – 8,788 / 34.99 per cent
    • Kevin Kraft (Independent) – 1,635 / 6.51 per cent
    • Andrew Rose (Greens) – 1,080 / 4.3 per cent

Meanwhile, the B.C. NDP is projected to lead the province.

Initial figures shows the NDP winning 46 seats, with the Conservative Party of B.C. taking 45 seats and the B.C. Greens securing two seats.

As of 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 99.7 per cent of ballot boxes across B.C. has been reported.

ElectionsBC said any three districts could not complete their counts due to weather related events and election official availability, saying the counts would resume Sunday morning.

Out-of-district ballots had also not been counted in a total of 16 ridings by time of publication, including those for Vernon-Lumby and Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream.

These figures are preliminary. ElectionsBC will finalize the vote counts between Oct. 26 and 28.
