A new face will be sitting in and guiding Vernon City Council meetings.

Peter Weeber has been hired as Vernon’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

In a release, the city said Weeber has a “robust background in municipal leadership” as he has served as CAO in multiple B.C. municipalities including the District of Stewart, Village of Queen Charlotte, District of Mckenzie, and the City of Penticton.

His last role, however, was not with a municipality, as he was the General Manager at Peters Bros. Construction Ltd.

The city said Weeber would be good fit for the role as his experience will allow him to blend public-sector priorities with innovative approaches from the private sector.

“Council undertook a systematic and rigorous process in selecting our new Chief Administrative Officer. We were looking for a leader with the right balance of experience, demonstrated capability and organizational vision to guide City staff and contractors,” Mayor Victor Cumming, said.

“With Mr. Weeber’s proven leadership, dedication, and public service, we are confident he will help us achieve Council’s strategic goals and meet our mission of delivering effective local government services.”

Weeber will take over the role as CAO on November 4.

He is replacing Patti Bridal, who announced her retirement in May.
