The Regional District of North Okanagan has selected a delivery approach for construction of the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre as the project moves into the detailed design phase.

At the Board of Directors meeting Wednesday, Oct,. 16, RDNO staff recommended a Construction Management for Services and Construction approach be chosen in building the new facility.

A report to the Directors stated the aforementioned model “incorporates a guaranteed maximum price based on the complexity of the project design requiring innovation and builder input; interest in a stipulated price contract to manage cost risk; and a leaner contract administration structure.”

The proposed delivery model comes with the advantages of having a professional on-site manager focused on guiding the project to an efficient completion, while acting on behalf of the owner. It does, however, have the disadvantage of having a manager with very little responsibility for the project, including them not taking any risk for cost, schedule or quality of work.

Despite the pros and cons, the report to the Directors stated this was the best option, and the RDNO Board voted in favour of moving forward with this model in place.
