People living in the north part of Vernon’s East Hill neighbourhood are advised to boil their tap water.

Greater Vernon Water issued a Precautionary Boil Water Notice for the area after a main break resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity in the system Wednesday, Oct. 16.

People in the affected area are advised to bring their tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking; making food, drinks, ice or baby formula; washing fruits or vegetables; and brushing their teeth.

Properties in the area may have discoloured water or air in their pipes, and in these cases Greater Vernon Water advises people run their cold taps until the water turns clear. It was noted that it is best to do this using an outside tap.

The Precautionary Boil Water Notice will be lifted once testing by Interior Health shows the water is safe to consume.
