Parts of Lavington to have water source switched temporarily

Oct 3, 2024 | 11:48 AM

The drinking water source for select properties in the Lavington area will be switched temporarily.

Critical valves in the Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant are in need of replacement, which will require a partial shutdown of the transmission main.

While the parts are replaced, properties in select areas of Lavington will have their water provided by the Antwerp Deep Well, which is an approved backup water source and had been tested to ensure it falls within the safe drinking guidelines.

The properties are expected to be switched on Oct. 21, and will be served by the Antwerp well for three weeks.

Residents will be switched back to the Duteau Creek system once the repairs have been completed, the water main refilled, and testing shows the water is safe for consumption.

The Regional District of North Okanagan said the public should not notice any interruption to their water service, though did note that there may be a slight change to taste, odour or appearance due to the water coming from a confined aquifer instead of a treatment plant.
