Four candidates confirmed for Vernon-Lumby riding

The upcoming provincial election will have a handful of names on the ballot for the local riding.

ElectionsBC closed its candidates nomination period Saturday, Sept. 28, and announced there are four people in the running for the Vernon-Lumby MLA seat.

Incumbent New Democrat MLA Harwinder Sandhu will be on the ballot, alongside Dennis Giesbrecht, the candidate for the Conservative Part of B.C.; the Independent candidate Kevin Acton; and Robert Johnson of the Libertarian Party. There was no Green Party member named for the local riding.

Meanwhile, the new Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding will also see four names on the ballot.

The candidates confirmed for that riding were Conservative Tara Armstrong, Independent Kevin Kraft, Andrew Rose with the Greens, and Anna Warwick Sears with the NDP.

ElectionsBC stated there were a total of 323 candidates nominated across the province for the 2024 Provincial General Election.

Of those candidates, 93 were registered with the B.C. NDP; 93 were part of the Conservative Party; 69 were Green Party nominees; 40 were Independent; 14 were “unaffiliated,” meaning they were neither endorsed by a party nor registered as an independent; five Freedom Party of BC members; four Libertarians; three Communist Party candidates; and two Christian Heritage Party of B.C. candidates.

General voting day for the provincial election will be held on October 19.

Advanced voting will be held on Oct. 10-13 and 15-16 at numerous places across the province. For the Vernon-Lumby riding, advance voting will be available at:

  • Kal Tire Place, 3445 43rd Ave. – Oct. 10-13 and Oct. 15 and 16
  • Peace Lutheran Church, 2304 30th Ave. – Oct. 15 and 16
  • Schubert Centre, 3505 30ths Ave. – Oct. 10-13
  • St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6525 Okanagan Landing Rd. – Oct. 10 and 11
  • White Valley Community Centre, 2250 Shields Ave. — Oct 12 and 13, and Oct. 15 and 16
