A pool and recreation centre in Kelowna will be upgraded thanks to a joint federal, provincial and municipal investment.

Through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program, the H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre in Kelowna will receive some energy efficient upgrades.

A total of over $3.3 million will go towards upgrading the facility’s heat recovery; heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; and lighting systems. The investment will also support the installation of 100 kW solar photovoltaic panels, and 10 Level 2 EV chargers.

Of the funding, the province will provide the largest contribution of $1,789,241. The municipal contribution will total $894,788, while the federal government will provide $671,007.

“With this joint investment, we are providing communities increased supports to address the climate crisis and create innovative opportunities for everyone,” Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy George Heman said.

“By investing into clean energy projects, we can build a more climate-friendly and affordable future for British Columbians.”

The upgrades to the H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre is one of 17 projects supported through the Green Infrastructure Stream.

Other area projects include improving energy efficiency and sustainability at the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association’s Inspiration/Training Centre in Peachland, and updating heat recovery equipment and the ventilation system at Salmon Arm’s Shaw Centre.

“In communities across British Columbia, this infrastructure funding is helping provide more people with clean, affordable, and reliable energy,” Jonathan Wilkinson, minister of energy and natural resources, said on behalf of Sean Fraser, the minister of housing, infrastructure and communities.
