Water Quality Advisory issued due to watermain break in Coldstream

Aug 30, 2024 | 12:52 PM

Greater Vernon Water is advising people in the Coldstream Creek area may have poor water quality.

A water main rupture resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity in the areas of Coldstream Creek Rd west of McClounie R, and Hillside Roads, Priest Valley and Summit Drives, Wyatt Way, Palfrey Drive West and East, Upper Summit and Lochhaven Drives, Marwood Place, and Suncliffe and Kidston Roads.

Greater Vernon Water (GVW), through the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), said crews were on-site, repaired the breaks, and will be replacing and flushing the water main. Water samples will be tested and the advisory will be lifted once the water is deemed back at acceptable drinking quality.

In the meantime, GVW advised people in the affected areas to bring tap water to a full rolling boil for a minute before drinking, using to wash and prepare food, using to make drinks, ice and baby formula; and using to brush teeth.

People may experience air in pipes or discoloured water from taps. In those cases, the pipes should be flushed out by running the cold tap until water turns clear, with GVW noting it’s best to do this process using an outdoor tap.
