People forced to evacuate after a motel in Vernon caught fire

People were forced to flee from a Vernon motel after a fire broke out Tuesday evening.

People staying in the Blue Stream Motel told Vernon Matters the fire started in a second floor room at around 5 p.m. August 27.

Fire crews responded and were actioning the fire, while police blocked off Highway 97/32nd Street from 43rd to 41st Avenue.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP also responded to the fire and helped clear the people from the motel.

The cause of the fire was not known to people staying in the motel.

Fire Chief David Lind told Vernon Matters that Emergency Support Services was assisting evacuees at Kal Tire Place.

Police added there were no injuries or fatalities reported in the blaze.

The cause of the fire was undetermined and under investigation. Anyone with information on the fire can call the RCMP at 250-545-7171 or file an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
