UPDATE: 1:41 p.m. Aug. 21

Firefighters remain on the scene of a fire at an industrial building that started Wednesday morning.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue said the firefighters on the scene at the building near Stevens and Industrial Roads were extinguishing hot spots and conducting salvage and overhaul activities.

As of the latest update, the fire was still smoldering in areas that could not be accessed by an excavator that was brought in to assist with demolition of the building.

Fire Chief Jason Brolund said he expected crews to remain on the scene for several hours Thursday afternoon to ensure the hot spots are actioned and the fire is fully extinguished.

The scene was deemed safe though and people who were evacuated from nearby buildings were able to return.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries associated with this fire.

An investigation into the cause was ongoing, though West kelowna Fire Rescue stated early indications show it to be accidental and related to the industrial process at the manufacturing facility.
