Fire in a Kelowna apartment building contained to the laundry room

Kelowna Fire Department were able to contain a fire within an apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

Crews responded to a high occupance alarm at a building in the 2000 block of Baron Road around 1 p.m. Aug. 20.

Firefighters discovered the fire was in the laundry room on a third floor of a building with 35 units and approximately 70 residents.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm structure fire, but an initial fire attack crew was able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze on their own.

Damage was limited to the laundry room, and the fire department said it was an electrical fire.
