One person has been arrested in connection with fires being set in Vernon’s East Hill area Monday.

At around 8 p.m. August 19, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to several reports of a person setting a number of fires on a property in the 2600-block of 27th Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and quickly located and arrested the suspect without incident.

There was no significant damage to the property reported.

“It’s really concerning to see this happening,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“It’s reckless. These fires have potential to suddenly get out of control and can have disastrous consequences. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case thanks to the quick action of the witnesses who spotted what was happening and immediately reported it.”

The 33-year-old man remained in custody Tuesday pending an initial appearance in court that day.
