UPDATE: Evacuation Alert remains in place for Echo Lake east of Lumby

Progress has been made on suppressing the wildfire near Echo Lake, but the Evacuation Alert remains in place.

The Regional District of North Okanagan reported that risks associated with the fire east of Lumby had decreased, though the Alert was being kept in place as “conditions can change at any time.”

People in the areas mentioned below are advised to have grab-and-go bags ready and fuel in their vehicles so they can leave if conditions worsen.

The public is also advised to have emergency plans in place for themselves and their loved ones, including having accommodation options prepared. The RDNO also advised people to be preparing to move their livestock if possible, and to be ready to move people with disabilities, children, pets and neighbours in need of assistance.

As of 10:07 a.m. Sunday, July 21, the Bonneau Creek wildfire east of Lumby was classified as Being Held, and was being actioned by a team of 13 B.C. Wildfire Service members with assistance from four helicopters.

It was estimated at 2.3 hectares in size and suspected of being human caused.

People in the Echo Lake are advised to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

The Regional District of North Okanagan, in consultation with the B.C. Wildfire Service, issued an Evacuation Alert due to the wild fire near Echo Lake, east of Lumby.

The Alert affects the areas of 11 Eight Mile Road; the west end of Echo Lake including the DVM Bible Camp, and properties 1812, 1815, 1824, 1848, 1855, 1864, 1871, 1871, 2136, 2230, 2234, 2241, 2241, 2242, 2244, 2245, 2246, 2376, 2432, 2450, 2478, 2485, 2510, 2514, and 2530 Creighton Valley Rd.

The Evacuation Alert was issued as the Bonneau Creek wildfire had grown to 1.7 hectares in size Friday, July 19.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said the fire was classified as Out of Control and suspect of being caused by a lighting strike.
