A Precautionary Water Quality Advisory has been issued for a handful of properties on 28th Avenue in Vernon.

The Regional District of North Okanagan and Greater Vernon Water issued the advisory for properties between 1300 and 1405 28th Ave. Friday, July 19.

GVW said a water main repair led to a loss of water to these customers, and a precautionary advisory was issued as the water main is flushed and the water quality is tested.

The advisory is expected to be in place until 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 23.

Until testing shows the water is within safe drinking standards, affected customers are advised to bring their tap water to a roiling boil for a full minute before drinking, using to prepare food or drink including baby formula and ice, and for brushing teeth.

Customers may also notice air in their pipes or discoloured water from the taps. In those cases, people are advised to run a tap on cold until the water runs clear, with GVW noting it’s best to do this using an outside tap.
