For third straight day, Vernon sets new heat record, 119-year-old mark smashed
For the third day in a row, a new heat record was set in Vernon.
Environment Canada said the temperature on Tuesday (July 9) peaked at 39.6 degrees Celsius, smashing the old record of 36.7 set in 1905 by almost 3 degrees.
Heat records were set or tied in 36 other communities on Tuesday including Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops.
The mercury in Kelowna reached 39.3, surpassing the old record of 38.6 set in 2015. (See the complete list below.)
