A fundraiser for a group that helps the less fortunate in the Vernon area will be held this weekend.

The ‘Yard Sale Fundraiser’ will be on Saturday and Sunday (July 13 and 14) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2305 45th Avenue.

Proceeds go to the Packman Open Hearts in Vernon, which prepares and serves dinners to low income families, senior citizens and people living on the streets of Vernon.

Tracey Griffen and Jimmy Miller have volunteered their time for the last five years for the community organization, but unfortunately they have fallen on difficult times.

Their friend, Stephanie Jeffrey, said Jimmy and Tracey were the owners of a moving company (Packman Moving and Labour Services) but had to recently shut it down.

“Jimmy has been very ill and has now been diagnosed with cancer on top of everything else including two strokes and multiple other health issues,” Jeffrey said.

“They are struggling financially and emotionally but STILL continue to feed the people of Vernon.”

Jeffrey has started a GoFundMe for the husband and wife.

“If you can find it in your heart to help this wonderful couple get back on their feet and continue to do what they love best (helping people that need it the most) please consider donating and if you can’t, please share this with your friends,” Jeffrey wrote.
